Bags of Hope are a small token of comfort to women who have been newly diagnosed with ovarian or any other type of gynecologic cancer. That first trip to the chemo room, while hugely frightening can also be a ray of hope. The Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Florida (OCAF) offers its Bags of Hope to patients at their treatment. These canvas bags are filled with items to educate and comfort. Brochures about “What Every Woman Should Know about Ovarian Cancer” to Lunch Bunch offerings and support group information are only the beginning. A large cup for important fluid intake is included as well as socks and a blanket to stay warm, and a hat, so that first time in public with no hair isn’t so intimidating. A journal is also included to sort out feelings as well as keep track of the myriad of procedures and medications. A teal ribbon pin and silicone bracelet are also included as a way to spread awareness.
